I am taking my first improv class since Coffeyville Community College (was that really 5 years ago already?!).
It is with Tim Marks of Improv-Abilities. It is an advanced improv course that lasts for 6 weeks. The first class was mostly introducing ourselves to one another and a little bit of scene work. It gave us a chance to lay out some goals (if we had any) and here are mine:
Short-term:
1) Learn new techniques/styles
2) Use real emotion and motives
3) Establish weaknesses and work on fixes
4) Establish strengths and flourish
Long-term goal:
Be part of what makes improv great in KC.
It is my dream that Kansas City will be a place where people say things like, "Have you been to KC? They have awesome improv there." And maybe talented, funny people will stay here instead of go off to Chicago or New York. I realize it is a big lofty goal, but....dream big, right?
