Thunderdome was amazing this time around. Holy Cow! has come so far in just a little over a year. We've whittled down to six players (including me) and we've ventured into the unknown that is longform. And we're loving it!
We've put together a presentation we call "The Classifieds" which goes something like this:
Get a suggestion from the audience
Opening: improvisers step forward and create a classified ad based on suggestion
Create scenes from opening
-Blackout-
Improvisers step forward and create scenes based on one suggestion from previous scenes
Scenes

Improvisers step forward and create scenes based on suggestion from previous round

The idea is that by the end, the three suggestions (first from audience, final two from scenes) will come together to form a cohesive, connected storyline that is hopefully full of relationships and hopefully entertaining.
So far, so good. We've done this twice now and we're ready to continue to try new presentations and formats we've seen other troupes do.
The Pitch called and asked us to do Artopia, which is exciting. We're on once a month at the Fishtank and we're in talks about producing a show there. We've got a headlining show at the Westport Coffeehouse Theater on the first Friday in April. And we're doing Fringe Fest this year with hopes (HOPES) of being selected for the KC Improv Fest this year.
We started a YouTube channel and we've begun to tape our performances which is cool for two reasons:
1) We can watch it and analyze performances to give us a heads up on what we think we need to work on.
2) We have footage for submission to festivals that require it.
We're leaving the nest of Rockhurst and venturing out as a "professional" troupe. So we lose the awesome, FREE space we've had for 4 years, but I think it's time to move on (considering 1/3 of our troupe never even attended RU). Scary...but exciting at the same time.
Lots of new exciting things going on in my little world of improv. And I'm loving every minute.
